Nested Memories

The purpose of this project is to create a complex cultural space that can contain the diverse activities of local residents by establishing the Namdo Righteous Army History Museum, which contains the history and symbolism of Namdo Righteous Army and creating a historical park that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape resources.

The master plan planned rational land use according to the natural flow of users by considering the shape of the topography and the surrounding environment. In addition, considering the phased development of the museum and the historical park, while the remaining facilities of the theme park exist, a plan was sought to utilize some of them. In order to attract visitors, various programs were devised and a plan for active connection of external resources was established. While passing through the parking lot and going to the museum,
themed forest and water spaces made of bamboo, pine, reeds, and various flowers are welcoming. In addition, the paths connected to the Yeongsan River and Daya Garden on the east side and the
Sa-am reservoir on the west actively attract external visitors.

A rational and economical plan was derived by actively utilizing existing facilities. In particular, the mound to the east of the youth hostel was torn down to secure a view of the Yeongsan River, and open space was created in front of the youth hostel so that could be used as an event space for both the museum and the youth hostel, and the two facilities were actively linked.

The design process has proceeded with a combination of square masses that creates the entire architectural and void space including the courtyard and outdoor exhibition. That is one of the traditional architectural techniques of Korea including the existing buildings on the site.
